Season by season
How the year breaks down for trip planning.
- Spring (Mar–May) — Official tourism guidance highlights spring for cities, culture and nature, before peak heat.
- Summer (Jun–Aug) — July and August are the hottest months and the peak beach and festival period.
- Autumn (Sep–Oct) — The other officially highlighted window: warm sea and easier sightseeing conditions.
- Winter (Nov–Feb) — Mild on the southern coast, cold in the interior, and spring-like in the Canary Islands.
Best value window
Summer (Jun–Aug) usually gives the best balance: july and august are the hottest months and the peak beach and festival period. Shifting a trip two or three weeks either side of peak is normally the single biggest saving available.
How long to stay
