Around $62 a day per person covers simple accommodation, local food and public transport. That's the mid-range end of Croatia.
Cheapest months to go
Peak is May, June, September. The weeks either side of that window usually carry most of the weather with much less of the price.
Getting around for less
Realistic options in Croatia:
- Catamarans and car ferries link the mainland with the Dalmatian islands
- Intercity and coastal buses connect most towns affordably
- A car is the practical option for national parks, Istria and rural Dalmatia
- Domestic flights shorten the long Zagreb–Dubrovnik axis
Where to base yourself
Fewer bases means fewer paid transfers. Dubrovnik, Split, Hvar cover a lot between them.
