Around $35 a day per person covers simple accommodation, local food and public transport. That's the very affordable end of Guatemala.
Cheapest months to go
Peak is November, December, January, February, March. The weeks either side of that window usually carry most of the weather with much less of the price.
Getting around for less
Realistic options in Guatemala:
- Tourist shuttles link Antigua, Atitlán, Semuc and Flores
- Short domestic flight or overnight bus to Flores for Tikal
- Chicken buses are cheap, slow and an experience in themselves
Where to base yourself
Fewer bases means fewer paid transfers. Antigua Guatemala, Lake Atitlán, Flores & Tikal cover a lot between them.
