October, November, March, April, December are the strongest months in Argentina. Spans subtropical north, temperate centre and cold, windy Patagonia; southern-hemisphere seasons, so January is midsummer and July is midwinter

Season by season

How the year breaks down for trip planning.

  • Patagonia & Atlantic beaches (Dec–Feb (austral summer)) — The main window for Patagonian trekking, glaciers and coastal beach trips; also the busiest and priciest.
  • Northern provinces & Andes snow (Jun–Aug (austral winter)) — Argentina Travel positions winter for travel in the north and for Andean snow sports; far-southern access narrows.
  • Buenos Aires, Iguazú & the centre (Sep–Nov, Mar–Apr) — Spring and autumn are the balanced shoulder windows for the capital, the falls and the central regions.
  • Mendoza wine country (Feb–Apr) — Harvest season in the vineyards under the Andes, with warm days and cool nights.

Best value window

Northern provinces & Andes snow (Jun–Aug (austral winter)) usually gives the best balance: argentina travel positions winter for travel in the north and for andean snow sports; far-southern access narrows. Shifting a trip two or three weeks either side of peak is normally the single biggest saving available.

How long to stay

Most trips to Argentina work best at 12–21 days, which is enough for Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Bariloche without living on transport days.
