Season by season
How the year breaks down for trip planning.
- Drier period (Dec–Mar) — The most reliable all-round window across much of the country, and the busiest.
- Rainier period (Apr–May) — Greener and cheaper, typically with afternoon rain rather than all-day washouts.
- Second drier period (Jul–Aug) — A popular domestic holiday window; strong for the Caribbean coast and the Andes.
- Rainier period (Oct–Nov) — Wettest across much of the interior; regional patterns vary considerably.
Best value window
Rainier period (Apr–May) usually gives the best balance: greener and cheaper, typically with afternoon rain rather than all-day washouts. Shifting a trip two or three weeks either side of peak is normally the single biggest saving available.
