April, May, June, September, October are the strongest months in Greece. Mediterranean with long sunshine and limited rainfall; hot dry summers cooled by seasonal winds, mild coastal winters, colder and snowy mountains

Season by season

How the year breaks down for trip planning.

  • Spring (Apr–May) — Officially promoted as a strong travel period: green landscapes, culture and island travel without peak heat.
  • Summer (Jun–Aug) — Hot and dry, busiest ferries and highest prices; seasonal winds can cool the islands.
  • Autumn (Sep–Oct) — Warm sea and thinning crowds — a strong shoulder window.
  • Winter (Nov–Mar) — Mild on coasts and plains, snowy in the mountains; some island services reduce.

Best value window

Summer (Jun–Aug) usually gives the best balance: hot and dry, busiest ferries and highest prices; seasonal winds can cool the islands. Shifting a trip two or three weeks either side of peak is normally the single biggest saving available.

How long to stay

Most trips to Greece work best at 8–14 days, which is enough for Athens, Crete, Santorini without living on transport days.
