Around $65 a day per person covers simple accommodation, local food and public transport. That's the mid-range end of Greece.
Cheapest months to go
Peak is April, May, June, September, October. The weeks either side of that window usually carry most of the weather with much less of the price.
Getting around for less
Realistic options in Greece:
- Ferries are the backbone of island travel, with main mainland ports at Piraeus and Rafina
- Domestic flights shorten the longer island hops
- Buses and rental cars cover the mainland; scooters and small cars suit most islands
Where to base yourself
Fewer bases means fewer paid transfers. Athens, Crete, Santorini cover a lot between them.
