Season by season
How the year breaks down for trip planning.
- Spring (Mar–May) — Comfortable sightseeing conditions; JNTO notes cherry-blossom periods can be crowded.
- Rainy season (Early Jun–mid-Jul) — Affects much of the country, though timing varies by region.
- Summer (Jul–Aug) — Hot and humid; typhoon season peaks around August–September.
- Autumn (Sep–Nov) — Comfortable conditions and autumn colour — a very popular window.
- Winter (Dec–Feb) — Cold and snowy in the north and mountains; Okinawa remains mild.
