How to travel Czechia cheaply without gutting the trip — daily numbers, cheaper months and where the savings actually are.

Around $60 a day per person covers simple accommodation, local food and public transport. That's the affordable end of Czechia.
Cheapest months to go
Peak is May, June, September, December. The weeks either side of that window usually carry most of the weather with much less of the price.
Getting around for less
Realistic options in Czechia:
- Dense national rail network links Prague with Brno, Ostrava, Karlovy Vary and most regional towns
- Intercity coaches are frequent, cheap and often faster on routes such as Prague–Český Krumlov
- Prague runs an extensive metro, tram and bus network on a single ticket system
- A car is optional for city trips but useful for castle routes, Bohemian Switzerland and rural Moravia
- Neighbouring capitals (Vienna, Berlin, Bratislava, Kraków) are reachable by direct train or coach
Where to base yourself
Fewer bases means fewer paid transfers. Prague, Český Krumlov, Brno cover a lot between them.
