Malta on a budget
How to travel Malta cheaply without gutting the trip — daily numbers, cheaper months and where the savings actually are.

Around $60 a day per person covers simple accommodation, local food and public transport. That's the mid-range end of Malta.
Cheapest months to go
Peak is April, May, June, September, October. The weeks either side of that window usually carry most of the weather with much less of the price.
Getting around for less
Realistic options in Malta:
- Public buses cover the main island and are the cheapest way to move
- Ferries link Malta with Gozo and Comino, plus a fast harbour ferry between Valletta and Sliema
- A small rental car helps for Gozo and rural corners, though parking is tight
- Distances are short, so day trips from a single base work well
Where to base yourself
Fewer bases means fewer paid transfers. Valletta, Mdina, Three Cities cover a lot between them.
