Around $55 a day per person covers simple accommodation, local food and public transport. That's the affordable end of Mexico.
Cheapest months to go
Peak is November, December, January, February, March, April. The weeks either side of that window usually carry most of the weather with much less of the price.
Getting around for less
Realistic options in Mexico:
- Extensive domestic flight network between distant regions
- Comfortable intercity buses cover most routes affordably
- Metro, light rail and local transport in the major cities
- A rental car is useful in Yucatán, Baja California Sur and around smaller highland towns
Where to base yourself
Fewer bases means fewer paid transfers. Mexico City, Oaxaca, Yucatán & Mérida cover a lot between them.
