Where to go in Singapore
Matching Singapore's regions and cities to trip types — first-timers, beach weeks, food trips and family holidays.

Singapore is a city, an island and a country at once, sitting just north of the equator at the tip of the Malay Peninsula. Everything is close: Changi Airport to Marina Bay takes well under an hour on the metro, and the whole island is walkable in segments. It works equally well as a three- or four-day trip or as a comfortable stopover between Europe, Australia and the rest of Southeast Asia. The draws are hawker-centre food culture, which UNESCO recognises as intangible cultural heritage, ambitious green architecture such as Gardens by the Bay, and heritage districts in Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam. It is the most expensive base in the region for accommodation and alcohol, but street-level eating stays cheap.
The places worth building a trip around
Each of these has its own page with timing, budget and getting-around notes.
- Marina Bay (City) — The skyline core — Gardens by the Bay, the waterfront promenade and rooftop views.
- Chinatown & Tiong Bahru (City) — Temples, shophouse streets and two of the city's best hawker centres.
- Kampong Glam & Little India (City) — Sultan Mosque, Haji Lane murals, sari shops and Tekka's food stalls.
- Sentosa (Island) — Resort island of beaches, theme parks and aquariums, minutes from downtown.
- Singapore Botanic Gardens & Orchard (Region) — UNESCO-listed tropical gardens next to the city's main shopping street.
- Southern Ridges & Pulau Ubin (Park) — Canopy walkways above the city, and a rustic island that looks like 1960s Singapore.
Pairing them up
Long weekend: Bay, heritage districts and a gardens morning. Route — Marina Bay → Chinatown & Tiong Bahru → Kampong Glam & Little India → Singapore Botanic Gardens & Orchard.
What the country is strongest for
