Overview
Panama is the isthmus that joins Central and South America, with a Caribbean coast to the north and a Pacific coast to the south — close enough that many itineraries touch both in a single week. Panama City is one of the region's best-connected hubs thanks to Tocumen and the Copa network, which makes short trips and stopovers unusually easy. Beyond the capital and the canal, the draws are the Bocas del Toro and Guna Yala archipelagos, the cool coffee highlands around Boquete, and Pacific surf beaches. The Darién gap in the southeast is not a tourist route.
Climate: Tropical, warm all year, with a Pacific-side dry season roughly December–April, a wetter May–November, and permanently cooler, springlike highlands.
Plan 8–12 days to see Panama without rushing. Shorter trips work best from a single base; longer trips justify a second region.

Highlighted months balance weather, crowds and price for most travellers.
Dry season (Pacific side) · Dec–Apr
The main travel window: driest weather for the city, canal, Pacific beaches and highland hiking.
Green season · May–Aug
Afternoon rain rather than all-day rain in most areas, greener landscapes and lower prices.
Wettest · Sep–Nov
Heaviest rain on the Pacific side. Panama sits south of the main Atlantic hurricane track, but rainfall is significant.
Caribbean side · Different pattern
Bocas del Toro does not follow the Pacific dry season closely and can see rain in any month, often with drier spells around Sep–Oct.
Highlands · Year-round
Boquete and Cerro Punta stay cool and springlike; bring layers in every season.
Seasonality & crowds
How busy Panama typically feels month by month.
- Quiet
- Moderate
- Busy
- Peak
National approximation for decision support only — it never affects match scores. It tracks the Pacific dry season plus Carnival and the Christmas–New Year period; Bocas del Toro follows its own weather and can be busy in months the mainland is quiet.
